Privacy Policy
This policy explains what data RestaurantProfitCalc collects, why, and what you can do about it. It applies to www.restaurantprofitcalc.com and every page on it.
The short version: The numbers you type into the calculator never leave your browser. We don't ask you to sign up, and we don't sell anything. We do use analytics and show advertising, and those involve cookies.
Who runs this site
RestaurantProfitCalc is operated by Terry McDonnell, based in Cambridge, New Zealand. For anything relating to privacy or your data, email privacy@restaurantprofitcalc.com. For everything else, use hello@restaurantprofitcalc.com.
The calculator does not store your numbers
The profitability calculator runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your revenue, wages, rent, and every other figure you enter are processed on your own device and are never transmitted to us, stored on a server, or written to a database.
When you close the tab, the numbers are gone. We could not retrieve them even if we wanted to.
What we do collect
Analytics
We use analytics software to understand how many people visit the site, which pages they read, roughly where in the world they are, and what device they're on. This is aggregate data used to decide what to write next. It includes information such as your approximate location (country or city level), browser type, operating system, referring website, and the pages you view.
Log data
Like most websites, our hosting provider automatically records standard server logs, including IP addresses, timestamps, and requested pages. These are used for security and troubleshooting.
Email you send us
If you email us, we keep that email and your address so we can reply. We don't add you to any mailing list.
Cookies and advertising
A cookie is a small file placed on your device by a website. We use them for analytics and advertising.
Google AdSense and third-party vendors
This site displays advertising served by Google AdSense. The following disclosures apply:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- You can opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info or youronlinechoices.eu.
Third-party advertisers may also use cookies, web beacons, or similar technologies when they serve ads or measure their performance. We have no access to or control over those cookies. Their use of information is governed by their own privacy policies, not this one.
Managing cookies yourself
Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies through its settings. Blocking cookies will not break the calculator — it runs without them. It may affect which ads you see.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to certain processing, or withdraw consent for cookies. Because we don't operate accounts and don't store calculator inputs, the amount of personal data we hold about any individual is minimal — but the rights still apply.
To make a request, email privacy@restaurantprofitcalc.com. We'll respond within 30 days.
If you're in the EU or UK, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority. If you're in New Zealand, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
Children
This site is aimed at people running food businesses and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, email us and we'll delete it.
External links
Some pages link to other websites. Once you follow a link off this site, this policy no longer applies. We're not responsible for the content or privacy practices of sites we link to.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data, we'll update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will be noted clearly rather than slipped in quietly.
